|
|
On March 10th, the latest edition of skulltag was released. This is necessary from time to time to keep the bugs out and to generally keep things working. You need to uninstall Skulltag and download the new one. (Sorry guys.)
The whole thing is really simple. Just pick up the latest version here:
http://skulltag.net/download/
Get it installed, set the directory paths, and get blasting. Don't forget you are going to need Doom2.wad from your old directory. Email me with any problems at ajc1490@gmail.com

If you played in Doom Night III, you are fine. However, the turn out for III was pretty low, so I decided to update the topic name and leave this here. Please e-mail me or message me or post a topic here with any questions. Let's do whatever it takes to get everyone in the game. |

Posted a write up about Doom Night III's festivities over on Pixel Perfect Gaming (http://webguyunlimited.com/pixelperfectgaming/?p=5183).
Here is a complete copy of the text for those that don't want to click through:
Quote: | Thursday, March 31st, 2010 North Potomac Maryland, Doom Night III was a resounding success with over two thousand frags (player kills) logged in just under sixty minutes of frantic game play (that is approximately 1 frag every second). Gamers came from all over the world to compete in the festivities and for the prize, a complete copy of the original shareware Doom on 2 3 1/2 inch floppy disks.
At the end of the night one Space Marine stood above, went beyond, the others- Cendoo of the United States of America who is a member of the Tiger Claw forums. Cendoo, you fought a better, more gallant, fight than anyone else that night and have earned our respect.
Doom Night is part of the Friday Night Fragfest, the brain child of Tiger Claw and is going into it’s fourth tournament, for which time, date and prize will be announced shortly.
To participate in Doom Night you will need a couple of things. One, you will need the Doom 2 wad file (Steam has made available Doom II). Second you will need a copy of a freeware program called Skulltag (available here). Further details will be made available, like server address, when they a finalized.
Don’t miss out on the next Doom Night, it will be a blast straight from hell. |
Cendoo, I almost got you that night, but you won fair and square. Good game everyone and I can't wait for Doom Night IV. _________________ |

The honor was all mine, Cendoo, you and the rest of the people that were there were what made the night so cool and fun to be a part of. Thanks.
Don't get all cuddly with that trophy (we really need to start giving them out, I have connections with a metal working shop so we could honestly get something tangible if there is interest). I am coming for it and will take it back at Doom Night IV. No worries there. lol
This time, I won't have any Reese's Klondikes to distract me. _________________ |

A real trophy sounds cool. I think something like that would fit a huge championship event. Something like that could be done annually maybe. I can't see going though all that every two months though. |

Well, I called the shop I used to work at and they will do it for cost of material (no shop time involved). That is a savings of about $65 per hour of shop time. Materials, depending on what you want it made out of could be as low as $10 (plate metal) up to about $60 (polished aluminum which would look AWESOME).
I will load up my CAD software and come up with some designs. Anything that would look good as a statue would be appreciated if anyone has any ideas. It will have to be simple though, can't be something like a person (unless you want to get costly). _________________ |

I would go simple. One of those cup trophy with the handles or something. I don't know. I'm open to suggestion. |

The simplest way to do it would be a 2D design welded to a plate to act as a stand. A 2D trophy of sorts.
The next step is to have one that is 2 pieces, which slip onto each other and make for a 3D effect.
The most expensive (metal wise) would be an actual cup design. _________________ |

I just looked at some trophy sites and for a plastic one they want something like $20+ for it and shipping on top of that.
My new business has me traveling a lot (see sig) so getting the trophy and such would not be a problem. I can e-mail them the design, they can have it ready and everything, waiting for me to pick it up.
The cost would be something like $10 or so for a 2D one. I am going to see if I can get it out of 1/2" polished aluminum (it would simply be amazingly cool as a center piece on someone's mantle).
How big do you want to make this thing? That will be the deciding factor really in the cost aspect. I was thinking about 8 inches or so tall (if you don't have a tape measure handy, this is about as tall as a Dish Network TV remote control).
Also, any ideas of a design idea? If it can be drawn in CAD, they can cut it out (I remember doing multiple templates to achieve designs that should not have been capable on the machine when I worked there). _________________ |

It seems like you have a pretty cool picture of what it should look like. Sounds like a cool little plaque. Should it say anything on it? If so, what should it say? Also, are we talking about doing one of these every time? |

Let me verify pricing on the various materials available and I will get you some shots of what it will look like.
I was thinking maybe we could do one, making it extra special, one of a kind. The writing on it, if any, can be done with a dremmel and a couple of bits (depending on how much writing). If not much, and big enough, it could be cut right into the material at the shop.
I am at a loss as to what we could use that is iconic from Doom that would make a great plaque. I was thinking of doing something with a health pack or something simple like that. The chainsaw might be possible. Basically it has to be something that looks good as a silhouette. _________________ |

What about a silhouette of one of the monsters? .. Or perhaps the word DOOM written in that super recognizable font from the title screen. |
