I'm going to be renting a game server soon. Still deciding on that game. Not sure if I'm going to pick Counter-Strike or Minecraft, but I want to admin my own server (at least for a short period of time.)
Cost is going to be a big deciding factor as to which game I decide on. Minecraft seems to be alot cheaper to run a small server than it used to be. Gameservers offers a four slot for 5 bucks a month. That might be nice. (Counter-Strike is the same cost.)
If I wanted to go a little higher I could get one for the old school Unreal Tournament. That might be nice because all of us can get that and unlike Counter-Strike, you dont need Steam to make it work. Unfortunetly that costs a little more since they charge by the slot. (It's like 12 bucks a month or something.)
So what do you guys think? This would be a nice way to get us back shooting again like we did back on Doom Night without introducing a wacky complex program that will have me doing tech support all night.

I am going to be renting the server when I get home from work today.
I'm going with Counter-Sttrike 1.6, though I might switch over to Source in the future if we can get it to work right for Darabka.
This means we will have our own mumble server. I encourage everyone to go download mumble.
I'm hoping to attract come members of the Counter-Strike community to come hang out with us. It would help to see you guys on the mumble server when it goes up.
Also that will be a MUCH better place to host D&D calls because the sound wont mess up when we have more than 5 people like skype does.
Also: INTEGRATED CALL RECORDING. Yes friends. This is also a supirior podcasting tool.
TL;DR - Install mumble. It's a ventrillo clone. Dont worry it's free. - http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ |
