Don't you guys just hate it when you buy a game that was on multi-platform, cross-multi-platform, or a game that's in more than one system and you just bought the game for the wrong system? There is a reason why many professional game reviewers give a multi-plat game different scores on each system it is in. Or maybe a great game that was famous on one system and it was later ported to other systems that turned out to be watered down versions of them.

One great example I forgot to mention in the Poopchow! Radio Podcast is the RPG's on the Sega Saturn that never was in the U.S., but ported to the Playstation that turned to be watered down versions on them, like Grandia.

One of the greatest examples I could think of that was completely different for one system to another is Jurassic Park for the SNES & Sega Genesis. Trust me they are very different because the SNES port was an over the head shot of your character shooting enemies and when you go in a building, you have this doom-style FPS shooting dinosaurs. While on the Genesis version, it's a side-scrolling action platformer where you can choose either human or raptor. Now that is a BIG difference, and I prefer the Genesis version because it had more fun factor than the SNES port.

Another one, one of my all time favorite games of all time, Gex: Enter the Gecko. That game was ported to the Playstation and Nintendo 64. The Playstation version had cut-scenes, more voice-acting and wise-cracks from Gex, and better graphics. The N64 port didn't have any of that, (even though it was released a year later), but it did exclusively included a Titanic level.

Here's one clear example of a game being different in each port

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lI7g1qG6uLw&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1?color1=0x234900&amp;color2=0x4e9e00"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lI7g1qG6uLw&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1?color1=0x234900&amp;color2=0x4e9e00" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

That's is quite something.

Here's Another One! A game that Gooch & the Dooshebag awarded game of the year 2008; Fallout 3. I love that game a lot and agree with G & DB 100%, but unfortunately, the PS3 version that I bought was the most inferior because it has BIGGER chances of freezing & get glitchy, and the DLC's didn't come the same time the PCs & Xbox 360 did.

Video game companies do realize that they can make more sales in their games if where on more than 1 system, but the problem is that each system has their own capabilities that it wouldn't be a great idea to make a certain game on a certain system.

My favorite time era of games that were on Multi-Platform was on the Playstation 2, Xbox, and Gamecube because, to me, whenever there's a multi-plat game, they're all equally the same and there's no worries of a game to be better or worse in a certain system because all three of those consoles needed was a D-Pad, 2 Analog Sticks, Four Buttons for the Right Thumb, and Two Buttons L & R for the Left and Right Finger. I mean I had a lot of fun playing Spiderman 2, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and so much more that wasn't too different from each other.

This generation of consoles that goes Multi-Plat, we got:

-Wii - Motion Controls, inferior superior graphics, & least supportive online
-PS3 - Blue-Ray Player turn into a gaming system w/ PSN
-360 - HD-DVD Player turned into a gaming system w/ Xbox Live
-PC - Keybords and Mouse
-DS - Two screens
-PSP - Only has 1 analog stick
-iTouch/iPhone - Touch screen, no buttons

Now games that goes multi-platform with all of those systems all has their differences and almost make them look like a different game. I can understand that Portable Systems that goes Multi-Plat will always be the the most inferior because they're not even close to be better than the consoles (Gameboy, PSP, GBA, DS), but the consoles in this generation has a lot of differences compared to last gen's consoles that buying a multi-plat game is a lot different. It's hard to only own one system in this gen. Not to bash on the Wii or anything, but it's seemed that the PS3, 360, PC always had the biggest multi-plat games with games such as Batman: Arkaham Asylum, Assassin's Creed II, and Modern Warfare 2. I know that the Wii can be just as good as those systems, but it seems that Companies that make games multi-plat doesn't take the console seriously, and made it the most watered down version 9 times out of 10 (Minus Spider-Man: Webs of Shadows being better on the Wii).

Despite console exclusives, I think that's the reason why I own the Wii, PS3, 360, PSP, & DS because you never know what multi-plat game would be the best port. I think that's the reason why many gamers take exclusives for a particular console more seriously than any multi-plat game because of that. Console exclusive are meant to be on that particular console. It's a shame that many companies never make their ports for all the consoles to be equally the same (as like PS2, Xbox, GC era). I can say that it's the console/system's capabilities, but yet I know that a multi-plat game can be equally the same if companies tries to.

Games going on multi-plat have always been different from one another for over a decade now, and you can look at a game in the past from more than one system and see that they face the same problem as of today. Sure the consoles in the 90's were different because they were 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit, 64-bit and they are bound to be different for multi-plats, but the PS2, Xbox, GC made multi-plat a great generation in gaming, and multi-plats now... just went back to be different from one system to another, but with new pros & cons. My advise is you need to get your money's worth by getting a game for the right system for you.

So for those who are reading this topic of mine, share me some of your experience with buying a game on one system that wasn't good as an other system. This is a pretty big topic from the latest episode of the Poopchow! Radio Podcast

http://boochowradiopodcast.podomatic.com/

& be sure to listen to one of my favorite episode, so far.

Boy, Cendoo, it's one of my favorite episodes we've ever done and can you comeback to the this topic and tell me what you think of the episode.

Also, was there ever a game you bought that was multi-plat that wasn't as a good port as another system? Thanks, man.

I always research a game before I make a purchasing decision so no I've never bought the wrong version of a game. Another benefit to waiting till a games inexpensive is you can easily compare the versions.

Something you didn't mention in that huge post was improved versions of games. A lot of games come out on one system then a year later are ported with extra content and a little more polish. Like Star Ocean 4. On the ps3 you've got the benefit of being on one disc instead of 3 or 4 and some extra content and a new character.

So it's not always a watered down port that comes out later. Either way I'm an informed consumer and wait for the price to be right and always compare multiple versions before going one version over another.
