Okay, so anyone who has ever listed to Gooch and the Dooshebag's Podcast has probably heard of my Writing Work, Seiko High School (which can be found at http://s1.zetaboards.com/SeikoHS/).
Well, after much thought, I'd like to extend a welcome to anyone reading this topic to try to Draw up a Manga for Seiko High School. It doesn't have to be a full chapter, just at least one page. Those who feel capable of it, go ahead and visit the link above and read at least one thread. Make a Page or Two of your favorite part of that Thread, and send it to me at my email:

OR
You can PM me an image of it; Whichever Works!

Just to nit pick. The English word for it is comic book. Manga is just the Japanese word for comic book...so when your entire post is in English, on a forum that's pretty much only English speaking, random Japanese words don't really make sense. Are you planning on it reading from left to right like you'd expect out of a comic made in an English speaking country or is it going to flow from right to left like it was made in Japan?
That vegemite's really starting to bother me. The people riding Japans cock so hard and using random Japanese words for no reason. Did you know they call American comics Manga and American Cartoons Anime? That's because they're in Japan, talking to Japanese people and those are the words used to describe all comics and all cartoons. So clearly, when speakin in English, to English speaking people, in an English speaking country it makes zero sense at all to randomly use a Japanese word that's been romanized. Why not look up the kanji or katakana characters or whatever the cream cheese for Manga just to be that much more elite? _________________ www.mondocoolcast.com

Meh. It's just a word adopted as slang. If thats what your into, whats the harm? As long as no one points to my NES and says: "Wow! You have a Famicom!" I'm good. |

Honestly I see your point, but I really don't think it's a big deal, and it's hard for me to go back, it's kinda stuck in my vocabulary lol. I've been into the stuff since middle school, like, 7 years and I've been calling it "manga" and "anime" that entire time. I don't think my brain can process it another way at this point. All I can say is to not let it bug you and take it in stride. _________________ Check me out if you got some time to kill.

Yeah just saying man. You see it all the time and the people that say it get just as pissy if you call it a cartoon or comic. Freakin Akira Toriyama lists Disney movies as his favorite 'anime'. _________________ www.mondocoolcast.com

You can blame marketing for that. When you go down to borders, all the Japanese comics are listed in a section labeled "Manga". Also all the ads in shonen jump read "lulz. buy this new manga!" So I guess it only makes sence for US consumers of Japanese comics to adopt that nickname. |
