If you are like me, you may go through game collection phases. There were times in my life where I was really concentrating on picking up Gamecube games or Sega Genesis (Megadrive) games or even PSP games. Currently, I am on a PlayStation 2 kick. I have been focusing on purchasing PS2 games as they are much cheaper than other older consoles even though some may not consider PS2 retro. Nevertheless, they have a wide library of games and if you search hard enough you are likely to find something you like. Not to mention there are many retro game compilations. What systems are you currently collecting for?

Secondary question, any PS2 game recommendations? (especially if you think your recommended game is a hidden gem or is under-appreciated)
Thanks!

Whoa, have not seen you in a while on these forums Hemrawc. Last time I remember you posting was back when Pier Solar was getting first released which was back in December of 2010.

As for collecting, I fell out of that wagon in about October 2014. Some serious life changes happened that forced me to sell my whole collection. Now I am only left with a PS2 and Original Xbox that I both modded to play games off a harddrive. Hopefully I will get a PS4 late this year maybe.

As for some PS2 recommendations, you cannot go wrong with Yakuza & Yakuza 2. Excellent beat em ups that are fun to play. Also since I know you are into RPGs, I would recommend the Xenosaga trilogy. It's from the same team that brought us Xenogears. Finally there is the two PS2 exclusive Clover games, Okami and God hand.

If you want more recommendations, ask away and I will compile a bigger list of what I have on my PS2 harddrive.

Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry to hear about your collection. Any chance you could rebuild it in the future?

Yeah, it's been a while since I've posted. Embarassed
Speaking of Pier Solar, I still have my 2nd edition genesis copy sitting on my shelf. I wish I didn't get talked out of purchasing the 1st edition...oh well.

I do like RPG's. I really like Rogue Galaxy on the PS2. Do you have any more RPG recs? How about racing games? I like Gran Turismo 4 but it's been awhile since I've played it last. I've heard ATV Offroad Fury 4 is great. Also are you into soccer/football games? What I understand is that FIFA 2008 is one of the best soccer/football games for the PS2. Any experience? Thanks!

Sadly, I don't think I will rebuild my collection. At least not in the near future but will as of now just stick with all my games being digital. So when I get a PS4, I will just download or rent all the games I play.

As for racing games, never really was into them. Only was ever into kart racers like Mario Kart or Sonic All Star Racing. Downhill Domination though is a good bike racing game that is on the PS2.

Also, I never really enjoyed playing sports games. Especially soccer. However, FIFA 14 was notorious for being the last PS2 game released in NA & Europe. So that alone is worth collecting for a PS2 collection.

Finally, here is a more expanded list of recommended games.
Half Life
Timesplitters Series
Amplitude
Ape Escape 2 & 3
Dynamite Deka
Alien Hominid
Bully
Shadow Hearts
The Bouncer
Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud 2
Dragon Quest 8
Ecco the Dolphin
Killer 7
Viewtiful Joe
Viewtiful Joe 2
Magic Pengel

I have over 100 games on my PS2 hard drive but I have not even touched most of them. This list covers the games that I played so far and liked. Hope this helps.

Hey man, thanks for the recommendations!

Some of these games are on my radar. I actually own Downhill Domination but it was one of those games that I think I got cheap and put on the shelf and then haven't actually played much. Maybe I can try it out this weekend.

Dark Cloud and Dragon Quest 8 are also on my backlog catalog.

Did you beat Dragon Quest 8? I've heard it's a long one.

I only played an hour of Dragon Quest 8. I liked what I played but was not feeling the urge to play another long RPG at that time. I might try giving it another shot after I finish Xenosaga 3. I just can't play more than one RPG at a time.

PS2 is an awesome system. I hooked mine up and turned it on again recently to play Gran turismo 4. I forgot how awesome those games are. ESPECIALLY Dark Cloud. That game was dope as hell.

Right now I'm still saving for my PC but if I were buying console games it would be more original xbox games or a few scattered PS2 games I would like to own.
