Well, the day has come. I am pretty much done with gaming. I started in 2009 with UnNamed Gaming, then went to Pixel Perfect Gaming and turned my remaining free time to Out of Print Archive.

Less than a year later, I was ousted out of PPG and started up with Nick of The Retro League and we founded Video Game Cowboys. After a failed server upgrade that cost us everything we had posted.

This prompted us to move forward with Gaming on Batteries as our headquarters site, then we started Gaming on Sony and Gaming on Nintendo late last year.

Lack of being able to bring on a regular staff (we went through over 20 people between the sites and the magazine) and extreme drop in advertising revenue has prompted us to rethink our strategy with the sites.

We will still be making available gaming reviews, features and such from time to time but we will be moving the sites into new directions- away from the deceptively stupid activity of fighting other sites to be first to post a review.

We had a good run, the top of the ratings had Gaming on Batteries hitting nearly 1 million unique hits in a month (May/June 2012). GoB content is regularly translated into 20+ languages, we worked with over 250 indie devs on various projects including but not limited to marketing, reviews, previews, insight on their game, getting published and more.

The sites are not dead and will not be dead anytime soon. Just repositioning them in a volatile market to reach an audience that others are ignoring.

It happens. It takes a team to make sites that are focused on being the first with news and information. We are not closing up shop, just focusing in another direction with future content.

I tried bringing on a team of writers, with pay per article posted, and got a lot of interest but no one turned anything in. It was a wakeup call, I spent several weeks working with various guys, getting them up to speed and setup with review copies only to have them stop answering e-mails and even unfriending me on Facebook.

We will be focusing our efforts on things that others are not. For instance, on GoB, our most popular pages are the JXD S601 and JXD S7300 pages where we list games that are compatible with each system. I have been slowly adding pics of the games in action on the hardware in question and those have quickly filled the top 10 most popular links on the site.

That shows me that there are a lot of fans out there interested in this hardware and it is pretty much ignored by everyone. Sure, the S601 is old now, discontinued and available for about $55 to $80 (mine was $110 shipped a year or so ago). The S7300 just came out earlier this year and is still unnoticed as more and more sites pop up to focus on the next Nexus device or Kindle Fire.

Another part of the refocus is the success of S7PR. Why write 12 articles a week for a site that earns less than $1 a week at the moment when I can write one press release that is shorter than the average review and clear nearly $50? It is about money when a hobby takes away time from a money earning endeavor.

I think the refocus of the sites will hit it off with fans since we will just be giving them more of what they have shown they want in the past.

I think the business world in general has been really hard on you man. Really sucks. I wish you all the best. I know you'll bounce back after you have had some time to concoct a new business plan.
