Since CF has been the one to carry the torch of working with Scenic 7 PR brighter and higher than anyone else I know, many times CF promoted it more than I did, it is only fitting to post this here.

Early in April, Scenic 7 PR will close down. We are letting the torch die out. The reason is simple. Advertisers didn't come like initially thought. Sure, some sponsors showed up but well, sponsors don't pay the bills when they are really only offering review copies, or small slices of the financial pie (S7PR only took 10% of earnings of advertisers/sponsors directly delivered to clients- 10% of a review copy is nothing).

The problem with podcasts, and changing the mindset of those that control the money, is that, well, for every Classic L337 or Tiger Claw Radio there are a few thousand (or hundreds of thousands) shows that are quite honestly, crap. Most people would think that that would make it easier for the great shows to shine but it is hard when the scene is so muddied as it is with podcasts.

I do, honestly, believe 10000000% that the clients represented at Scenic 7 were the best of the best. Each will go on, find their own successes and in time, S7PR will be forgotten (in Internet time, that will be about 3 days).

I want to wholeheartedly thank TCR, and the other clients, for taking a chance, for trusting and believing that we could change the world. I think we did change the world for a small few out there.

Thank you.

It's such a shame to see S7PR close it's doors. Thanks for all the help along the way. Good luck with everything Carl.

No Kaiser, this is not an April Fools joke. Many thought the same thing when I started S7 three years ago (I officially opened the doors on April 1st 2009- anyone remember that dreadful design I had going on back then? I have it zipped up if anyone wants to relive the horrors).

I wish it was an April Fool's joke. It would make it easier to laugh about later, but it is not and it won't be.

S7 is basically gone, guys. The torch is out and we are packing, literally, everything up and putting it in storage. It was a fun ride guys. I know I met a lot of great guys, made a few enemies, and I like to think, we made an impact on gaming and raised the bar of podcasts.

Remember, just because S7 is dead and gone doesn't mean vegemite to the clients as far as their futures. Take the ball, run with it. Take care of your sponsors, entertain the fans and have fun doing it.

I know I lived more than a couple of dreams since starting S7. I was able to work with my favorite gaming mag in the world, am responsible for legally making available scans of their mag, worked with some awesome people and had more than my share of laughs along the way.

This is definitely one of those "cream cheese it" moments, the type that you don't want to go through but you know you have to suck it up and do it. I had planned to close S7 last year but cowered out of it thinking I could turn the company around. 12 months later, things are still headed downhill, nothing new on the advertising front and I am just tired of beating my head against the wall that gaming companies have put up. It is time to hang the gloves up and close the book on an experiment that was awesome to be involved with and tally the final score and let it rest in peace.

Again, thank you to everyone that supported S7- at one point, over 4,000 unique visitors a day were hitting the site for information on clients, lately, not even 20. We did our best, it was good enough, we just weren't given a chance at the gold ring this time. We will in the future though, we will in the future.

Damn brother, sorry to see the dream die. I know what it's like to have something in your grasp then have it taken away by circumstance.

Thanks Jerry. The sentiment is appreciated. I am working on finishing up some paid content for S7PR (mostly press releases I wrote for companies both gaming and non gaming related) then the site will be gone.

I have thought about bringing the company back from the depths but I think it is best to let it die with dignity (it was honestly, never going to make money running like it was). It was no fault of the clients, past or at the end, it was just that gaming companies had no interest in spending money on ads. I truly believe they are shooting themselves in the foot on this aspect- if no one knows about your product, how can you expect them to buy it, play it and talk about it to their friends?

I have begun working with Gareth of Skewed and Reviewed to launch Skewednet (http://www.skewednet.com) to give fans another place to get news about games, comics, movies and music all in one site (rather than having to visit multiple sites). So far, it has been a success (reaching over 3,500 unique visitors a day in less than a month).

There is also a mag coming for Gaming on Batteries, the much delayed Retro Gaming Magazine, apps for Android and iOS and even some games. While S7PR has died, the dream is still alive, just the embodiment is gone. The spirit, the drive, the will to survive is still there and definitely kicking and screaming into reality.
