I know politics is a forbidden topic here but this SOPA thing has got to spark some concern. If it passes all your hard work reviewing will go up in flames. Does this worry anyone else?

Neither SOPA or the "Protect IP Act" will probably pass.

It's future bills that worry me.

The way it looks now it seems to have a pretty high chance of passing

All it takes is one high profile event to make these things pass. Look at the Patriot Act, under normal circumstances that thing would never have passed (it had failed many times in the first Bush and Clinton administrations under various incarnations).

Just saying guys, all it takes is for someone that is pro SOPA to find something to be the headlining event or poster child and it will fly through, regardless of opposition.

even so, the president already said he would veto it. Also people are telling me that is will most likely get ruled unconstitutional. At least I hope it will

I despise the patriot act ftr

The thing is, if the President vetoes something, it can go back to Congress where they can take a vote and over rule the President. This has happened about 4 times in history (Kennedy was at least one President this happened to).

The US Constitution was effectively put on hold with the Patriot Act and was signed on for another several years by Obama, I believe, last year.

What the heck is going on? First they announce it is pushed back until 2012 and now my friends are telling me that they were secretly passed yesterday.

Does anyone know something?

There have been times that things have been secretly passed in the past. Usually this happens when Congress knows that there is simply too much opposition to it but they want it to pass anyhow (either by personal choice or by constituent, i.e. the money, wanting it to pass).

If it passed in secret, I would suggest rethinking who you vote for in the coming elections because the people we have up there now are not doing their jobs for THE PEOPLE that voted them in.

http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/mark_12152011.html

Was supposed to go back to Committee today, was postponed.

That's it. Hasn't been secretly passed, or any of that nonsense.

Looks like Google and Wikipedia have begun their protests on these issues
