Doom Night will survive! Like D&D Night, TFC, Dickjokes and Minecraft it is a tradition of "the Group"!

Ouch man. Believe me I know that feeling. I couldn't make it because of family stuff, but the big problem has been the podcast lag lately. I didn't really promote this last Doom night very much at all.

Let me host a few and see if I can get Doom Night back on track.

I missed due to having too much going on at the moment (RGM, VGC, S7MG, S7PR, and keeping nearly 30 people moving forward on stuff).

Some advice on promoting Doom Night in the future. Hit up the clients at S7PR. Contact Matt Barton, Retro Gaming Roundup and Classic L337 to build it up about a month ahead of time, then hit The Paranerds and The Community the 2 weeks leading into the event. I would say hit up TCR, but well, we are on his forums so it is kind of a given to hear it on the show.

Also, contact Jerry over at MCC (I haven't heard his show in quite awhile but I have seen mention of it on various forums here and there so people are listening and talking which means they are potential combatants for Doom Night). Contact The Retro League (they are into retro after all and have a decent following, more possible combatants).

Use Twitter, Facebook and sites like Gamekicker, VGN24 and Su.pr to promote the event (give it a page somewhere, something people can grasp onto and help promote, something more than just the date).

Create banners, animated or not, for the event and get everyone involved to run the banners on their sites leading up to the events. This is a good way of getting brand recognition built up.

Prizes are always a good thing to offer too. It doesn't have to be Doom, or Quake or id Software, related but it would help in promoting the event (no one cares to enter a contest hosted by Chevy to win a Mickey Mouse doll for instance).

Doom Night will only be as special and as awesome as it is made out to be to the average person. Everyone that has participated knows how fun it can be. The problem is, even those people have lost sight of the event, the fun involved and the excitement of knowing they are ONE MORE KILL away from winning the prize, and the disheartening feeling setting in when they realize, they lost.

The Super Bowl is huge every year because it is promoted that way. Wrestlemania is huge because it is built up to. There is a lot of hard work involved in getting an event like this the exposure it deserves. Doom Night can be something huge, something special to more people than just us that have participated in it.

For Doom Night to become something big, it has to become something that people would rather participate and miss something else than to miss the latest Multiplayer Blastathon and be able to show off their FPS skills.

Didn't someone record some footage of a previous Doom Night? If so, get it up on Youtube, all nice and edited up (think latest action thriller driving movie commercial). Maybe mix in some trash talk of the regulars and flash some stats on the screen using their in game avatar or something. Build this up as an event.

For me, I wasn't too interested in playing Invasion or team or whatever, I am all about Deathmatch, me against EVERYONE else and them against each other. Maybe hosting multiple game modes over different nights or something, culminating into a main event, best against the best, Super Doom Night Matchemania Bowl Party to crown a champ, or something. The championship match could be round robin style, an hour long Iron Doom Man Match with every 15 minutes the game changes to a new mode- the person with the most whatever, kills minus deaths is the winner of that segment. Overall, after all 4 segments are tallied up, a winner is crowned.

Just a thought. I want to see Doom Night become something more than it has lately. It deserves too.
