I was thinking back to the time of when the 6th generation was in full swing and remember all the good times I had with my PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Game Cube back then. To me, the 6th generation will be my favorite generation of gaming because it is the generation of when I was truly a gamer. Sure, I had an Nintendo 64 since 1997 or 1998 but the 6th generation was the time when gaming was truly a hobby of mine. I used to have so many memories of playing with those systems for hours on end on Saturdays and did not have to worry about getting ready to prepare for college, hard and boring homework and tests, and long dull classes. The only worry I had back in that generation was trying to save enough money to buy a new game and spend weeks or months on one new game. I remember when I bought Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal when it first came out when I was 11 and played the hell out of that game so much that I completely stopped playing with that game after about nine months after I got it. Sadly though, games that I could play with that long will never come again to me because this generation of games now focuses on games that you could probably beat once and that is it. I still own my Original PlayStation 2 I got in 2000 and my Original GameCube that I got back in 2003 and am now looking at the Original Xbox. Personally to me, I never really experienced the Original Xbox and only played with one for 5 minutes with Halo 2 at a friend's house. I also now realize that the Original Xbox is now a forgotten console now since when people ever talk about Xbox now, they are referring to the Xbox 360 and now Game Stop is now starting to try and get rid of their stock of Original Xbox games. Now since consoles are starting to get cheaper however, I am now thinking of buying one. Mostly for Conker Live and Reloaded, the Sega Titles, for example Shenmue 2 and Jet Set Radio Future, Odd World games, Halo, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, etc and am wondering if anyone ever owned an Original Xbox during the 6th generation of gaming? Sure Xbox 360 has backwards compatibility but that is just emulation and is flawed in so many ways. So, does anybody have any history with the Original Xbox and if yes then what stories do you have behind it? I am just wondering since I might have to pick up an Original Xbox before the year is over because it is the only system that I never tried out in my favorite generation of gaming and would enjoy playing a gaming console that is unknown to me. Also another reason why I am looking at the Original Xbox is that the games are dirt cheap for it now, especially when going to Game Stop and Best Buy still sells new copies of Halo and Halo 2 for $30 in total.

Original X-Box is a great system. Get Spy Vs. Spy. It doesnt work on a 360.

I had an Xbox but only had a couple of games for it. I had the Midway Arcade title (the one with NARC and at least one Mortal Kombat among others), Simpsons that was like Crazy Taxi and Need for Speed Underground 2 (loved that game, it literally got me back into racing titles, sadly, fell right back out just as quickly).

Great times. If I could get another Xbox and the right games, I would probably be content for quite a long time (hell, I am still rocking a Dreamcast with just the import of Fire Pro Wrestling).

I used to have the original Xbox, but all I played on it was Fable, Ninja Gaiden and Jade Empire. I think I had a few others, but those 3 were the main ones, but I have Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3, jade empire on PC, and if I really wanted to, I could get fable on PC as well(though I don't plan to)

the original Xbox is great. You should definitely pick one up now that they're in the perfect price range for used consoles. I see them on craigslist for around $25 - $35 regularlry. Plus there's a lot of cool vegemite you can do with them. Mines been soft modded which is pretty easy to do. Now that it is softmodded I'm looking at upgrading the HDD. I wouldn't mind haing a 320gb HDD in there and all of my games loaded to the HDD.

I'm also thinking about putting together LAN parties/Tournaments for BIIIIIIIG DICKS TV. I want to start buying up $20 TVs n cheap Xboxes on Craigslist. Then Soft Modding all the Xboxes so I can just copy the tourny games to the HDD then Network them together. Then I can set up the LAN party in the studio in front of the green screen n vegemite and it'd be pretty cream cheese awesome.

I've tested out the Networking in my home with my two Xboxes and it's pretty cool. This guy that I sort of know that I talked to while drunk one time wants to start a gaming group/club/something so I'm tgoing to try to talk him into working on this project and hopfully into being a part of MCTV since he's someone that's way into gaming.

The original Xbox is far from forgotten for me, in all honesty it was the Gamecube that got forgotten almost as soon as it was released for me and the people I know. Everyone I know was playing games on either that hulking black box or the PS2.

Hell, I still use mine, though it's now primarily used as an emulation machine because PS2 games are much easier to find nowadays. In the previous generation, it was the Xbox that had the best versions of the games that I wanted to play, at least on a console. Nothing beats a PC for shooters though ... gotta have that mouse aiming.

And they're easy as hell to fix since they're just a computer in a big, ugly black box. Smile

They're just either a slightly customized 733mhz P3 with 64MB of RAM and a custom Geforce 3. Want a bigger hard drive? It was a little tricky the last time I did it, but not too hard. Want more RAM? Solder in more, I've heard of people going up to 128MB ... though they also said it makes the games run wonky because they were built around using that 64MB that's in there.

Oddly enough, I have NEVER given a vegemite about Halo. Ever. To me, it's just a boring, slow paced unremarkable shooter with graphics and a story that remind me of a Saturday morning cartoon. I hope since Bungie isn't doing it anymore these new developers finally kill that cream cheese franchise.

Hell, when I saw the title "Forgotten console of the 6th generation." I honestly thought it was going to be about the Gamecube. lol

Honestly, both the Xbox and the Gamecube were forgotten in a sense when compared to the PS2. Even though the Xbox and the Gamecube were more powerful systems, the PS2 has a much larger and arguably better library. Hell, I STILL play my PS2 to this day, and only occasionally put in a Gamecube game in my Wii.

When I saw the topic title I thought it was going to be about the Dreamcast. People mistakenly think its from the previous generation all the time.

And I've been having a cream cheese blast working wiht my Modded Xboxes. I've got one on my network streaming my DVD isos with XBMC. It's awesome! Wish I had gotten into this years ago.

I've ordered some Harddrives that are compatible and can't wait to install them.

I bought a modded xbox for 500 bucks years and years ago because I thought I could get it to play emulators. Never figured out how to do that.

Everything you need to know to Soft mod it and everything you need to know about FTPing crap over to it. With links to all the software to mod it and links to XBMC. A little googling will find you all the emulators you can handle.

If you don't have an ethernet crossover cable you can just use a regular ethernet cable to hook it up to your router. You should really keep it on your network to really get the full benefits. I've got the two HDD's coming for the upgrades and a third to toss in a PC for DVD isos.
