Okay, so while having a nice chat during Doom Night V, we had a discussion of a possible DnD Night! For those of you not in the know, DnD is more commonly known as Dungeons and Dragons, and is one of the most famous Tabletop RPG's to exist on the market. Critical Failure, seeing as he has a complete set, manuals and all, from where I sit, is the most suitable Dungeon Master, which means he manages the gameplay, moves the story along, and keeps track of what events happen.

This Thread I have set up will be for discussing what Variant of DnD we should play, as well as setting up our character. My Idea was to use the Rules of Dungeons and Dragons, and mix it with the Lore, Races, and Setting of Warcraft. You can find more about Warcraft's Lore, Classes, Races, and Statistics here from the WoWWiki here:www.wowwiki.com

Just to Keep the Adventure Simple, should anyone be choosing WarCraft, all players must be of the Races of One of the Two Factions.

The Alliance are Comprised of Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, and Worgen (Werewolves)

The Horde, on the Opposite end of the Spectrum, contain the Orcs, Tauren, Forsaken (Undead), Trolls, Blood Elves, and Goblins.

The Available Classes are:

Warriors - Your Classic Tanks, able to Take and Dish Out Loads of Damage

Rouges - The Glass Cannon; They can deal a good hit, but they can't take much Damage, which is made up for with their stealth and speed.

Hunters - A Mostly-Ranged Class whose strong point comes in being masters of Traps and Taming Beasts to aid them in Combat.

Mages - Your Classic Magic Class. Pretty Self Explanatory. Their Spells Focus upon Fire, Ice, and Arcane Elements, as well as being able to Summon Elementals.

Priests - Your Standard Healer. They can summon Darkness Elementals, Project Barriers, among other feats. While being Potent Healers, with the Ability of Resurrection, they also have the ability to Debuff their opponents.

Warlocks - A Dark and Shady Class, being able to summon Demons to do their dirty work. Using Soulstones, they can revive their teammates

Paladins - A Hybrid Class being able to act as Healers, Tanks, or DPS, based on their Abilities. Like Priests and Warlocks, they can Resurrect their fallen Friends.

Druids - A Jack of All Trades, priding itself on being able to Shift into Animals Forms in order to switch roles on a Dime, but not inherently able to excel any one particular place. Like Other Healers, Druids are able to Revive Teammates as well.

Shamans - Like the Druid, Shamans are Also a Jack of All Trades, being able to call upon Totems of the Elements to Aid Them in Battle.

Death Knights - Free of the Lich King's Will, These Experienced Adventurers brought into Undeath are geared especially towards defeating anything in their path, being excellent Tanks and DPS. Unlike all the Other Classes, this Class is Shared Amongst ALL RACES. Which means, regardless of what Race you Are, you are able to undertake this Class. However, keep well in mind that when you undertake this class, you DO NOT Start where others of your race Start. Instead, you start in Acherus: The Ebon Hold, which looms menacingly over the Eastern Plaugelands. Regardless of these Death Knights Having their Own Faction, they do ally with the Alliance and Horde at the end of their beginning quests, so you are still bound to being allied on the same Faction.

I have provided an Example of a Character for this Warcraft-Themed DnD. These contain the Default Stats of a Death Knight of the Race I have Chosen:

Name: Tsuneo (Japanese For "Eternal Hero) Blackstride
Race: Blood Elf
Faction: Horde
Class: Death Knight
----------------------
Strength - 105
Agility - 75
Stamina - 99
Intellect - 32
Spirit- 40
Armor - 150
Health -2169

I have the manuals to support DnD v2,3 and Original D&D. I would recommend version 3. I never got D&D4e, but that was completely modeled to look & feel like WoW.

I'm not opposed to running a weird campaign, but it would have to use a homebrew rule system. They are a tad more flexable. Actually that might be the way to go. I mean, I assume none of you want to buy D&D players manuals to have the rules with you right?

Quite True. Having a Homebrew Ruleset would make it a bit easier to fiddle around with until a formula is made. But, since this campaign is going to take place from a point of view of a faction, and there are many races that can be played, the opening of the campaign either has to start from our characters meeting at an Inn or some other location (Should this group be comprised of different races), or start from the same location (should they all be of the same race, regardless of class).

While that all may be true, your jumping the gun a bit. Right now, lets just get a player count, then I will work on logistics. After that, I'll present the game I have come up with, and any requests and be accommodated. Remember, as far as where you start, what races there are and all that, just trust the dungeon master. Trust me. You will have more fun.

There are chat programs with dice rolling aps built in for this sort of thing. I was waiting to see if people seriously wanted to do this before researching one. However, genuine interest has been shown. Right now the game looks like this:

Dungeon Master: CF

Players:
Adam
Shintai
Cendoo
Jerry Terrifying

I can't remember if Retrokaiser wanted to play, but he and anyone else is welcome. I'll have to streamline some play mechanics to adapt to a large group, but we will do this thing. Updates will be on the podcast and here on the forums.

Just so you guys know, I won't be able to participate in this series. Partly due to time constraints and also due to not being able to depend on having access to the computer for very long (fiancee rediscovered Facebook).

haha no prob man. This is bound to end up being a huge cluster cream cheese. We'll probably just end up hanging out and taking about stuff like in Doom Night V.

If I was still in touch with my brother, he would be all over this. He has either participated in or run hundreds of games like this with people all over the world since discovering the Internet back in 1994.

Yes there is still space. The next episode of the podcast will have more info. Till then i'm working on the dungeon.

I'm not sure how character creation will work. Creating a character takes a while so we might have to get together more than once. (I.E. have a session with just character creation.) I dont know.

Hey, sorry I'm late to this topic but have you guys checked out RPTools yet?

http://rptools.net/

I have been playing D&D online over skype for around a year now and my group uses their Maptool ( http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=maptool )

It has pretty much everything you need, a chat window, dice macros and most importantly a map. I think D&D (especially Fourth Edition) really needs a map so that players can see where they are in relation to monsters, terrain, etc.

Maybe you guys have already solved this issue, like I said I'm kinda late to this. I am not certain if I will have the free time to join you guys, but I am a veteran D&D player (both at the table and online) and I am interested in join your group (even though I a haven't played WoW).

Hey CF and Crew, just wanted to say hi and say Im interested in this DnD game.

I have been playing RPG's since the late 80ties, and would like to offer my help as an assist DM (playing NPC's, making traps, monsters and other crap) or also as a player. I got to books and wouldnt mind helping.

Just saying to other New people interested in playing DnD or playing tabletop RPG's in general, I think almost every group plays a modified version of the game, because everybody has houserules (exept Rulenazies, which everybody hates Wink ) so basicly every DnD game is at least a little bit (or a lot) a homebrew game.

Rules arent rigid as in videogames, and can change to make the game more enjoyable. And yeah playing a classic Dungeon crawl is fun, totally!

Anyway I totally would like to join and assist in this future DnD -Dungencrawl Awesomness! Wink
