Just wanted to point out that apparently, I am evil, going to destroy emulation and magazine preservation for everyone. At least that is what nirv (on OoPA and Retromags) thinks. He is so sure of it, he made a Youtube video exposing me. I feel like the Anti Christ or something of magazine preservation. lol

For some further details about how evil I am, check out:

@nirv, I am not sure why, for whatever reason, you feel I owe you an explanation for anything. I mean, are you serious? Feeling Ok?
triverse : (20 June 2010 - 11:15 PM)
@Kiwi, I apologize for bringing up bad memories, that wasn't my intent with the comment. I meant it more for nirv there, that this is not the first disagreement I have had with someone. Bad wording. My apologies.
nirv : (20 June 2010 - 11:11 PM)
Triverse, yes, you do need to explain it, 1v1. skype @ nirvgorilla. Talk to me about it.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 10:55 PM)
And I never argued that the pre-2000 cut-off wasn't justified ...just that I wasn't consulted at the time when I was one of half a dozen people scanning so I'd bought a heap of mags a couple of weeks earlier. Keep it in the past where it belongs.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 10:52 PM)
Don't go there. LOL. You all good for Games Machine scans Triverse? Happy to help if you need any of the first 27 issues or so. Use my issue 1 if you want to.
triverse : (20 June 2010 - 10:51 PM)
Kiwi, you and me have had quite the arguments. Does Nirv really need someone to explain to him why we at OoPA, or members here at RM, don't just scan and release every magazine they can get their hands on?
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 10:47 PM)
Pretty much what I said. No-one here denies that preservation is important but moral justification doesn't equate to any sort of legal rights.
triverse : (20 June 2010 - 10:46 PM)
Wow, just watched, well listened to since it's not much of a video, the vid that nirv put up. You are so off on so much man. Ah well, you are entitled to your opinion, no matter if you are completely wrong. If I had an agenda, I would have allowed E-Day to post those Gamefan's I scanned back up here and let happen what happens. I warned E-day about the situation concerning Gamefan issues and hopefully helped keep RM from getting completely shut down. Yeah, I have an agenda. Oh and your extra hits on that video, you don't have to thank me for them. I shared it with some friends because it was just so hilarious.
E-Day : (20 June 2010 - 10:23 PM)
Also, there is no flakey attitude on preservation. We want to do it here, but if we are faced with cease and desist orders, or any kind of legal action, we will abide by that since we don't actually have any sort of rights to be doing what we are doing. We're just doing it because we think it should be done. We just accept that we could be stopped at any given time. We try to avoid that by not preserving anything recent.
E-Day : (20 June 2010 - 10:21 PM)
@nirv: I would appreciate if you do not stir the pot with members at OoPA. Triverse doesn't et revealed in your video. The reason he doesn't want his scans on here is because the content owner, Dave Halverson, told him not to put them up or there will be legal action. Perhaps he's bitter from when triverse was competing with him to buy the rights to Gamefan a while ago. That's it, that's all. His actions aren't detrimental; legal action would be.
E-Day : (20 June 2010 - 10:15 PM)
No idea. I assume on or around the 25th, but I don't know, I haven't heard a peep from him in a long while about ownership transfer.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 10:05 PM)
Hiya E-Day. Whats up? When is Phillyman giving you the keys to the Megaupload account?
lspear76 : (20 June 2010 - 07:23 PM)
What's up guys, I'm back after a few months.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 05:32 PM)
I don't have a flakey attitude at all. I think all mags should be preserved for prosterity. I just don't care whether it comes from the publishers themselves or projects like this. What I do get annoyed at is if a publisher doesn't do it themselves but then comes down against a project like this.
nirv : (20 June 2010 - 05:15 PM)
What's with the flakey attitude on preservation? Either you're for or against it. I really don't think there can be a middle ground here.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 05:10 PM)
And you'll find E-Day and Meppi will say the same thing. No-one likes it ... and it won't stop me scanning my mags for my personal use on an iPad etc anyway ... but the law entitles them to protect their IP.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 05:08 PM)
Will that stop me? Course not!!! But if a copyright owner chooses to assert their rights to protect their IP it's "Game Over" time
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 05:04 PM)
My personal view is this... "You & I have no LEGAL right to preserve another persons work unless given permission by them to do so. Or the said works are no longer protected by copyright. End of story"
nirv : (20 June 2010 - 05:00 PM)
I hope that comment was a joke.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 04:58 PM)
There's a slight difference there though. It's one thing to emulate the behaviour of a particular chipset/setup which is what those guys do vs ripping/use of the ROMs themselves.
nirv : (20 June 2010 - 04:46 PM)
Think about Aaron Giles, or RBelmont, or any other Mame coder. They're in the interest of preservation. That's the kind of mentality I'm talking about. Serious people who aren't joking when they say their goal is preservation. If you're preventing preservation, you're a lying sack of crap and are a plague on the community. I'm willing to debate anyone who disagrees live on Skype, vent, whatever. Triverse knows he has nothing, so he won't do it.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 04:44 PM)
Oh yeah ... the copyright owners of Computer Gaming World made the first 100 issues freely available as well
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 04:40 PM)
The fact that the copyright owners of Antic/ ANALOG & Newsfield have all given permission for their works to be freely disseminated indicates that some people don't think that way. Sure, some publishers will always protect their IP. But that's their right at the end of the day.
nirv : (20 June 2010 - 04:37 PM)
They never will. They don't care about us at all and never will. I had contacts with Sega of America and Planetweb back in 1997 and their only involvement with the community was the further promotion of their products. That's the game industry. They don't give a crap about you. Triverse and anybody else has to get over that. We're alone.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 04:35 PM)
No-one I know thinks we'll ever get all publishers onboard. If publishers choose to make their content available in digital form on DVD like Retro Gamer does I'll buy them and never scan those issues. It is my hope that the publishers look at OoPA/ RM and see that people do want the older mags and thus do something about it themselves.
nirv : (20 June 2010 - 04:31 PM)
Because you're delusional if you think that you're ever going to get permission from every publisher. You cannot be a preservation site and expect to get compliance from publishers. There's more to it than that. If you heard the podcast, you can tell that Triverse is just as much a pirate as anyone else but he pretends to be holier than thou. He's SO full of crap and that's why he refuses to discuss it with me over Skype but hops on a podcast that is not asking tough questions regarding his suspicious actions.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 04:28 PM)
Don't get me wrong ... I've had plenty of issues with him and meppi ... but how can his getting permission from Newsfield Ltd to make their mags available freely be detrimental to the goal of mag preservation?
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 04:26 PM)
I can't comment on PM's ... but his comment on people taking and not giving back are entirely correct for the majority of people who visit this place.
nirv : (20 June 2010 - 03:42 PM)
His comments in private messaging were aimed at me, and his actions in the community are detrimental to the goal of this project and nobody is calling him on it.
KiwiArcader : (20 June 2010 - 03:40 PM)
Back off nirv. Triverse has a point. Lots of people say "Oh yeah .. NG is great ... when can we see more of them?" but aren't prepared to help obtain them. I am sure his comment wasn't aimed at you... |
I guess I am the most evil person ever. lol Anyone agree? _________________ |

It has been like this since I started on the Internet back in 1998. People attack me over trivial matters and try and run away with it (I have had the same username since then so I am not sure where they are claiming I am hiding, they are the ones with a different username on every forum they appear on).
It is cute though, I mean, I finally got to that level where people are willing to make Youtube videos about me (he threatened at least once in the thread, and a couple of times in PM's to make more-can't wait).
It is good publicity for Classic L337 I think. lol I let them know up front, I am a controversial person and well, it is coming true. lol Just imagine if I was trying to piss people off. lol _________________ |

This guy has gone as far as getting my phone number (I have a theory on how and from whom) and is harassing me that way now. I am taking steps to have it stop, just takes time. _________________ |

That is what I was thinking, Retroman. He sure does have a lot of free time on his hands. He is sure making me popular, people I didn't know cared about me or my stuff are contacting me, or defending against him. lol _________________ |

He is now leaving voicemails for my fiancee. Someone gave him a shovel because he is just digging a legal hole he isn't going to be able to climb out of, er, "debate" his way out of. _________________ |

Dude, you ain't the anti-christ, Oprah is..... but that's beside the point.
This dude needs to chill out, making a big drama out of this is simply laughable and the fact that he's taking it as far as he is, brings more to question his own sanity rather than his "exposure" of you. I mean seriously, leaving messages for your fiancee!? The cream cheese!? What a sicko, especially over something like this. _________________ Check me out if you got some time to kill.

It has been said somewhere, and I forgot who said it and exactly where but here is an interesting quote:
Quote: | Who knew there was this much drama in preserving magazines? |
